Interview:
Hi, Belinda!! Welcome to Rex Robot Reviews- excited to have you here today! I would like to thank you for taking the time to join us for an interview.
1. For readers that have not yet read any of your books, which would you suggest they read first?
Wow, good question! I'd say that Belle Starr or Soul Keeper are both good starting points for my writing. Really, it just depends on your likes and dislikes, as I've done scifi, BDSM, same sex and so forth.
2. Which character did you enjoy writing the most and why?
I really enjoyed writing Helios Dayspring from 'An Uncommon Whore.' Writing from his point of view was almost like channeling a character, he had such a strong identity and voice. I also enjoyed writing the character of Belle Oakley from Belle Starr. She is such a strong, charismatic character and I was never sure what she'd do next!
3. What did you enjoy most about writing Soul Keeper?
Soul Keeper was a delight. I broke a lot of rules in that book and really tried to keep the narrative beautiful and flowing. It was just over the top romantic, without any huge conflicts between the lead characters. The book was about the process of Dorian and Phaedre slowly coming out of their tragic pasts into their love. The time I spent writing that book really kept me grounded in a good place in my head.
4. What do you do when you aren't writing?
Obviously I read a lot...maybe too much! LOL! I also have several Siberian Huskies, I show them a couple weekends per month. I enjoy traveling and getting out of the house.
5. Could you tell us a little bit about your writing process?
I don't have a set routine, generally I have more than one manuscript in some degree of the process. So I'll maybe be working on the first draft of a project while I'm also editing another. In the past, I was most productive at night, lately mornings seem to be working better. I don't write everyday, and I don't panic if I don't compose anything for a week or two as long as I'm either researching, editing or doing something productive. I have a white board where I keep track of what my priorities are, though that's pretty flexible. I don't often write on queries and proposals because I tend to panic if a deadline is looming. :)
6. So, what comes next? Excited about any other releases or works in progress?
Actually, I'm really excited about my next project, which releases in May at Loose Id. It's called "Doms of Dark Haven" and is a BDSM anthology with Cherise Sinclair and Sierra Cartwright. The anthology was inspired when Cherise and I visited the Citadel in San Francisco. BDSM isn't my usual genre, but most of my books involve some D/s, as well as power exchange, so this was a really fun project to participate in. My novella is called 'Educating Evangeline' and is part of my Truckee Wolves world. (Toxic at Changeling Press is a Truckee Wolves story as well.)
My current project is tentatively titled Belle Starr: The Bandit Queen and is the sequel to Belle Starr. It's Cali's story. I'm also starting to outline the sequel to my m/m space opera An Uncommon Whore. That project is working titled "A Beautiful Man" and is told from Griffin Hawkes POV.
7. If one of your books could be a movie, which would you choose?
Probably Belle Starr. It's a great action/adventure story with sex, violence and werewolves in space. LOL!
8. What do you think about the Kindle and other e-readers and the effect they have on the book community?
I have a Nook and I love it. I find myself buying and reading more than normal. If the powers that be can adopt a reasonable business model, it should be really good for the industry as a whole.
9. Any other parting words that you would like to say to our readers?
