About the Author:

Lauren grew up in Monroe, CT. She is a graduate of the University of Connecticut at Storrs, where she majored in psychology.

In addition to writing, Lauren’s daughter keeps her busy, accounting for the rest of her time. Lauren’s favorite color is green and she loves penguins.

 

 

WHEN I'M NOT WRITING

I'm a bit of an oddball. Most of my waking hours are consumed with either writing or reading. You already know about the writing part, but in terms of reading I tend to be - what's the word? - voracious. So far this year, I've read 141 books, and this has actually been a less-voracious-than-usual reading year for me; one New Year's Eve, I made the resolution to read 365 books in the coming year and succeeded - I know, crazy, right?

Some of my favorite YA novels I've read this year are Before I Fall, by Lauren Oliver; Please Ignore Vera Dietz, by A.S. King; Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, by Ransom Riggs; and Cryer's Cross, by Lisa McMann. My favorite adult novel read in 2011 is The Old Romantic, by Louise Dean.  

 

There are actually a few things I do besides writing or reading, believe it or not. In my family - which includes my husband Greg and 11-year-old daughter Jackie, with whom I write The Sisters 8 series for young readers, http://www.houghtonmifflinbooks.com/features/sisters8/ - we are big on TV. We like Terra Nova, House, Glee, The New Girl, Raising Hope, Parenthood, Revenge, The X Factor, Once Upon a Time, and Pan Am. And that's just what we watch on regular TV! We also Netflix things and buy DVDs. Our current addiction is The Big Bang Theory. Oh, and I also take a break from writing every day at three p.m. to catch up on General Hospital. (Do you think Crazy Lisa is really dead? I don't think Crazy Lisa is really dead. And is it possible that Jake is alive? But how are the writers going to pull that off since for once there was, in fact, a body? The mind reels.)

I also love to spend time with my kid. She's seriously cool and I know it'll be just a blink in time before she's off to college and on her own, so I'm making the most of every moment.

As you can see, what with my intense writing/reading/viewing/hanging-out-with-my-kid schedule, there's very little time left over to do anything else, which means I spend very little energy on either cooking or cleaning. I do know how to use the buttons on the microwave and so long as there's nothing crawling, I figure the old homestead is clean enough.
