Shannon's Thoughts:
I
don’t generally read contemporary teen novels, especially contemporary
teen romance novels. Mostly because I’m 31 and not 17 and they can be
so..."teenager-y”. But this book blew my expectations out of the water.
It is so much fun! It is witty and light and managed to stay within the realm of believability.
Anna and the French Kiss isn’t all star
crossed lovers or major misunderstandings or angsty or awkward. Yay! The thing I
really like is that both of the main characters are flawed, but not
damaged. Anna doesn’t completely lose herself to be with St. Clair and
voices her opinion more than once (although sometimes without getting
the whole story!) And St. Clair won’t dump his girlfriend even though
it is pretty obvious he has feelings for Anna. To be fair, he doesn’t
come across as quite the cad that sentence makes him out to be. Both
Anna and St. Clair are afraid to admit their true feelings and afraid to hurt others. They are friends, but stuck in that murky
gray area. I think a lot of people can relate to that situation.
Anna
is an extremely fun narrator and there are moments I truly laughed out
loud. A great read...even for 31 year olds! Read this!
