Shannon's Thoughts:

Linger is the second in Stiefvater’s Wolves of Mercy Falls.  It picks up where Shiver left off, only this time Stiefvater included two new narrators: Isabelle and new wolf, Cole.  I have to say I really enjoyed the new additions.  I was prepared not to like Cole - I generally don’t get along with jerky guys.  But Cole had a lot more depth than I expected and ended up being a really fun character.  I also enjoyed Isabelle’s point of view.  She is definitely working out some grief issues and is not afraid to call people out on their crap.  Love that.  

I also enjoyed following Sam and Grace’s continuing romance.  There is much less of a hurried feeling now that Sam is remaining human during the winter.   But there sense of foreboding as Sam can’t quite let himself believe that everything will remain ok (and he’s right about that).

Where Shiver was like a time bomb counting down, Linger is slow and simmering.  Stiefvater is a great writer and has a knack for setting the mood through her words.  Linger has a melancholy feel with a touch of foreboding.  And of course, it ends with a cliffhanger like Shiver did.  

If you enjoyed Shiver, you will like Linger.  I can’t wait to read the final installment, Forever!
