Shannon's Thoughts:

Forever is the final installment in the Wolves of Mercy Falls.  (You can read my other two reviews here and here).  When we last left off, Grace was turned into a wolf but was alive.  Forever picks up several weeks after Grace’s disappearance.  Grace is starting to turn back to human for periods of time and now has to face the fallout from her disappearance.  Sam and Cole continue to work on cure, while Isabel shuts Cole out of her life.  But they all have to come together again when they find out that Isabel’s father has convinced the state to allow an aerial wolf hunt.  Now they are in a race against time to figure out how to save the wolves.   

I ended up enjoying this series more than I expected. Maggie Stiefvater is an exceptional writer.  She has an amazing ability to provoke moods and images within her scenes.  She is great at teasing out the history of our characters and helping the readers understand how they came to be who they are. And in Forever, all the characters are at a crossroads and desperately need to make peace with their pasts in order to go forward.  Stiefvater has managed to write three strong books in her series and they are all remarkably consistent in quality (which is hard to do in a trilogy).  Forever, like Shiver and Linger, is quiet and introspective.  Stiefvater does not spend much time delving into the werewolf mythology but instead keeps her story close and intimate.  I think Forever was a great final book to the series.  The ending leaves the reader to make some assumptions but overall I found it a very satisfying conclusion.
