Shannon's Thoughts:

Admittedly, I should have brushed up on the events of the first book, Ripper, because it took me awhile to remember what had happened.  I felt a little lost because there is not a lot of recapping.  Which is fine, if you can remember the previous book!  But that aside, Renegade, picks up shortly after where Ripper ends.  This time we delve more into the Conclave and their experiments.  Including the creation of a lamia (a half snake, half woman) who has a terrible thirst for blood.  Abbie tries to keep all her secrets, but finds it increasingly hard as the Conclave gets closer to her loved ones.  She also struggles with her feelings for William, who is the one she loves and Simon, the one she feels she SHOULD love.

I can't honestly say that I liked this sequel better than the first.  I found the introduction of the lamia to be terrifying, but also kind of odd and confusing.  I just wasn't that into the plot and I'm not sure why.  It was fine, but I felt it dragged a bit.  I wasn't much of a fan of the love triangle stuff either because I felt it was just created drama.  Meh.  Neither guy was amazing or awful.  I didn't really have much feeling about one guy or the other.

Overall, this series is enjoyable though.  Abbie is a strong female character and the Victorian setting is always fun for me.
