What’s your liquid fear?
David Dunn is the “lucky one” in many ways—he’s the one who was most able to resist the test drugs that induced fear and rage in the original research subjects. Because of his resistance, though, he becomes a case study for Dr. Sebastian Briggs, who has confined the man and is treating him with drugs that alternately skew his perception of reality and then cause him to remember how much he’s lost.
Dunn only has one viewpoint scene in Liquid Fear—the opening, where we experience how removed from reality he now is. His rich fantasy contrasts with his physical plight—he’s being held captive in a converted factory being used as a research facility.
Dunn seems to cling to an important incident in the original test trials that the others have forgotten—that one of the research subjects died violently. However, his knowledge doesn’t really help him. It seems to bring him guilt that lingers despite his obvious disintegration.
Will David Dunn remember in time to help the others defeat Briggs? Or is he too far gone, the latest victim of the Seethe and Halcyon drugs that Briggs is testing?
Read Liquid Fear and find out just how much fear is enough.

LIQUID FEAR: A Mystery Thriller
By Scott Nicholson
When Roland Doyle wakes up with a dead woman in his motel room, the only clue is a mysterious vial of pills bearing the label “Take one every 4 hrs or else.”
Ten years before, six people were involved in a secret pharmaceutical trial that left one of them murdered and five unable to remember what happened. Now the experiment is continuing, as Dr. Sebastian Briggs wants to finish his research into fear response and post-traumatic stress disorder. He’s backed by a major drug company and an ambitious U.S. Senator, but he also has a personal stake in the outcome.
Only by taking the mysterious pills can the survivors stave off the creeping phobias, carnal impulses, and madness that threaten to consume them. But the pills have an unexpected side effect—the survivors start remembering the terrible acts they perpetrated a decade ago. They are lured back to the Monkey House, the remote facility where the original trials took place, and Briggs has prepared it for their arrival.
Now they are trapped, they each have only one pill left, and cracks are forming in their civilized veneer. After the pills are gone, there’s only one option. “Or else.”

Sounds like another great one, Scott! Thanks for being awesome, as always. =O)

First a big thank you to Rex Robots for including that little "Retweet" button. What a smart move. And, Scott, it was difficult enough for me to sleep after reading that bioethics.gov "blog" so I know your book is going to scare me silly. All that patting themselves on the back stuff that the bioethics committee members were doing for "improvements" is soooo typical of government management, all the while you know the opposite often holds true. Also, the fact that they are "acting out" the definition for clinical trials for all those participants who don't speak English and don't have words for clinical trials tells me that the pharmaceutical companies aren't bothering to spend money on translators, because I can't imagine any people who don't have words for get better, get sicker, or die. varbonoff22 at cox dot net

Zowie! What is this? You were all over the place on April 1st. Is that International Scott Nicholson Day or is this whole giveaway thing some sort of elaborate April Fool's Day joke? (It beats posting something new every day for 90 days, i suppose).
