Silver Borne by Patricia Briggs

 5 out of 5 Robots!

My Review:
Silver Borne is an outstanding addition to the Mercy Thompson series. To say I adored it is an understatement. I thought it was going to be hard for Briggs to top Iron Kissed, but she outdid herself. This book is everything I look for in a good Urban Fantasy. I was a little nervous to begin this one because I've read some reviews that romance called shotgun and the action/adventure took a back seat- I loved that Mercy had romance sit in the back. Pft, this book was brilliant though- even with romance at the forefront. The action was definitely still intense- Briggs had my heart in my throat more than once.

The plot intertwines the fae and werewolves and Mercy isn't catching any breaks- just like in the previous four books. Samuel falls into a deep depression, the pack bond is suffering, Phin has disappeared, Gabriel is kidnapped... Danger magnet, Mercy? The resolve to all these issues is logical and the story flows very well- it will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

The character development is to die for. It was great seeing Ben's softer, heroic side. He is probably my favorite out of all the secondary characters. Oh, and Adam Hauptman! The courageous Alpha, Mercy's mate. Their relationship really reaches solid ground in this novel, they're so easy to enjoy when they're together. The wit they throw at each other in the midst of little squabbles is adorable. I'm really fighting for these two to stick it out- Briggs, don't break my heart! I'm telling you- this author really had me nervous about some of my favorite characters. I seriously thought we were going to lose someone every now and then and I was sweating it!

Another awesome thing about Silver Borne? The reader gets to delve into the details of pack politics. The werewolves and their hierarchy is fascinating to say the least. The fact that a shape shifter coyote has been mated to this particular pack's alpha and trying to fit into that hierarchy makes it even better. This combined with the fae universe is compelling and could keep you captivated to the final page.

One complaint. Where was Stephen!? I missed him!

I loved this book so much. So much! I was thinking about it for a couple days after putting it down. It is safe to say that River Marked (#6) will be my most anticipated read of 2011. Good thing it comes out in January!
