My Review:

Whether or not you love The Beatles and zombies- this brilliant rendition of what music and history would be IF The Beatles were brain junkies will have you rolling. 

I don't even have much to say about this book, I simply loved it- don't want to spoil anything for readers. I really went into this book rolling my eyes, but I'm glad I read it anyway! Hilarious. Ninjas! Zombies! Rock 'n Roll! This is the best mockumentary I have experienced since watching "Best in Show" back in 2000. We have all the top dogs dropping cameos: Jesus, Santa Claus, Mick Jagger, Elvis and Roy Orbison. This is Beatlemania in an entirely new light- those of you trivia addicts will be excited that music trivia from the 1960s litters this book. 

Dark and humorous- those of you that love The Beatles and don't mind your fabulous four devouring civilians and having an alternate history, will really get into this book. Maybe not for those that aren't into a little bit of gore in their stories... but this is a zombie book, I wouldn't have expected any less. I strongly recommend this book, the wonderful world of humorous horror and zombies collides blissfully with The Beatles to create an enjoyably gruesome fun for all story ;)

My Review:

Brains: A Zombie Memoir by Robin Becker was brilliant, to say the least. It was edgy, refreshing and totally unlike anything I have read lately. It was a quick read, at only 192 pages. I only wish it would have been longer- but the author was clever leaving it as she did. I don't know if I will get to visit the courageous and cunning Jack Barnes again- though I would be the first one in line to buy a second book if there ever was one.

A scientist, Stein, has been trying to mold the perfect person. But, just like it should- it all goes wrong when they release the virus before it is ready. This leads us to the endearing college professor, Jack Barnes, and his wife being surrounded by infectious people. Zombies. He inevitably  contracts the foul zombie virus that has been eating the country. Along with his newly decaying body he has found a new passion: Brains. He says it better than anyone, "...beautiful, bountiful, bubbly, bewitching, bedazzling brains." I am in love with the way this book is written. It made me laugh, cringe and hope. Hope for zombies? Who would have thought. I was utterly torn, do I want the zombies to get slaughtered?! Do I want them to survive to brutally eat more humans!? Geesh, I still don't know. But I DO know that I loved Jack Barnes and his little entourage of special zombies. Jack goes on an adventure with his fellow zombies to find their God, their creator... the reason this all started. Stein. I mean, he must appreciate their existence, right? He'll help them survive among humans.... right?

This is what I love about Jack- when you look into his eyes, they aren't vacant and glossed over like the majority of the undead. No, he is self aware. He can read. He can write. And he is smart enough to realize there are others like him. He finds Guts, Joan, Annie, Ross and Eve. All with their own individual zombie super powers. They will fight for equality, or die (again) trying!

I highly suggest this book to anyone- if you don't mind some serious flesh eating. The book is written in first person, which is why it is so much fun. Who doesn't want to be present for the thought process of a self aware zombie? I'm going to be reading this book more than once, and recommending it to all my guy friends. Can we have another, Ms. Becker?

 My Review:
Play Dead by Ryan Brown is frightening, fast and flat-out funny. Definitely not a book you want to take seriously. I was a little concerned half way through that the plot had gotten a little flat and more horrifying than hilarious- not that horror is a bad thing. Football isn't for everyone. Neither are zombies... but combined? Brilliant!

The Killington High Jackrabbits has never had a successful football team, but their time has finally come. They have two games left to claim the district championship. At the final game they will come head to head with their number one rival, the Elmwood Badgers. There has been bad blood between the two towns since the time they were first founded and it is time for them to duke it out on the field. But a terrible prank prevents the Jackrabbits from even making it to the stadium. Their team bus goes over the bridge and takes a trip down the river- eventually sinking, pinning and drowning every player but QB Cole Logan. Now there is only one thing left for Cole to do. Get revenge.

So, just how does one go about getting revenge and settling the score? Turn to black magic, of course! Haha. Now that Cole has magically brought his entire team back to life, he has 48 hours to win a game and send his team back to their grave before all hell breaks lose. He and Savannah, the coach's distant daughter, must control the team as they can't stop themselves from eating everything... horses, cows- even their parents. Can Cole and Savannah beat this race against time and secure a victory to save the souls of his teammates and spread revenge amongst the berating Badgers?

I truly loved our hero, Cole Logan. He is your typical high school bad boy- motorcycle, piercings, daddy issues and a past. Although he is a loner, he will live and die for his football team. He's counting on the team to help him win a college scholarship- he's got to get out of Killington. My favorite moment! Cole throws himself off a cliff into the river to rescue his teammates from the water logged bus. Cole is incredibly passionate and the whole scene is ridiculously intense. This isn't the only time Cole shows magnificent passion.  There is a very fun "beat down" scene that I enjoyed- Cole knows how to stand up for himself and those that he cares for. Savannah is another story. She doesn't seem passionate- her character is a little flat. Cole makes up for that.

I have to say that I was pretty excited to receive this book in the mail for review. I love zombies! (You can thank Robin Becker of Brains for that.) The cover alone got me excited to read this. Play Dead was full of fresh ideas that are wildly engrossing. It was a quick, entertaining read and I recommend it to any zombie or football lover. (Don't worry, the football isn't overwhelming- read it even if you aren't a fan of football!)

Truly, Madly by Heather Webber

My Review:

Truly, Madly by Heather Webber was completely enthralling and a blast to read! I shot through this book so fast- such a quick and satisfying read. Did not want to put it down until I was finished. It was just what I needed... Nothing too heavy here. I plan on reading this book over again and again. 

Lucy Valentine and her family have been cursed by Cupid himself. Yep, how great is that? I loved the back story on the Valentine family. You see, they can all read auras and pair people off with their perfect match by the colors of those auras. They found a great way to make money doing it too. Generation after generation of the Valentine family has been keeping at it- that is, until it is Lucy's turn. Her powers were replaced with the ability to find lost objects after being electrocuted as a young girl. Now even though her newest ability may hinder the family business it does become quite useful... especially in life or death situations. Lets accentuate the death ;)

Now Lucy must suddenly take care of the family business while daddy recovers from a heart attack. That isn't all- a young child goes missing and she may have found the man of her dreams. But it all starts going down hill when Lucy finds something gruesome that should have been left alone... Talk about it all hitting the fan at once. So, is she up for it- think she can keep her paranormal abilities secret, find the boy, keep the business afloat and snag the man?

Although this book is primarily deemed a romance book, I found that there was more action and mystery. Don't get me wrong- there IS romance. It just is not the forefront of the plot. I loved it. It was more a mystery with a hint of romance and a twist of paranormal. Just enough of everything, perfect blend.  

Truly, Madly is extremely refreshing and I adored it, to say the least. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is even faintly interested. Pick it up! You will enjoy yourself! Webber already has plans for a second Lucy Valentine -Deeply, Desperately... and I can't wait to get my hands on it :)

Getting Personal: The Snowpocolypse -2010.

The Snowpocolypse 
So, this year the East Coast was lucky enough to encounter The Snowpocolypse. What is this, you ask? This is the biggest freaking snow storm we have had since 1996! This was actually two glorious snow storms. The first one unloaded about three feet of snow between Friday, February 5th and Saturday, February 6th. Then, like magic, the snow started kissing the earth again around 11AM on Tuesday, February 9th and finished with another 20 inches on the 10th. That is right, I called it GLORIOUS and even went as far as saying it KISSED the earth. Mostly just to drive a certain miss Belinda insane because she didn't have quite as much fun as I did ;]

So, all the pictures and videos I'm posting are of family and myself. See that picture up above? I'm stupidly jumping off the railing of my deck. My man says, 'Babe, make sure you land on your butt.' Well, duh, I say. Not 30 seconds later, I put my feet down to land. Oh, instinct, you FAIL me yet again. Whoops; I thought for about 2 minutes that I broke an ankle. Haha, I didn't, it didn't hurt after those 2 minutes were up. 

 I also wanted to share how lucky I am that it snowed in our area. Because if it never snowed, I would have NEVER met Spiderman. That's right, folks, I got to witness Spiderman shovel a porch. This is not something that happens everyday. No pictures were allowed so I had to sneak a tiny one. Apparently the snow had brought down the crime rate for those evenings- all the criminals being stuck indoors and all... Spiderman got bored.

Spiderman is not the only one who was bored while being stuck at home. Today we played outside in the snow for over 2 hours. I don't think I've played in the snow that long in foooorrrrrever. I know you're dying to check out some of the silliness. I even have videos of my baby (REX!) catching snowballs in his mouth. If you check out my YouTube page, you will find that my dog is obsessed with snowballs.

Now, no hate comments. My baby has to be tied up to a chain because if he isn't, he chases after cars... and you try holding him on a normal leash when he's chasing snowballs. Sorry, I got my fingers all mixed up in the Evidence:

Some of us hated the snow, *cough* Belinda *cough*, some of us loved it (ME!)... But I hope that whatever the circumstance that everyone stayed safe and enjoyed what they could of being stuck in the house... even if they ran out of diapers, power and/or food. ;]

He is obviously a pervert.

Anyway. This awesome boob-purse came up. I thought this was absolutely hilarious. They "retail" for $30!!

Now, the whole point of this post- other than the hilarious product- is that he is super excited to get a shout out on Geekologie.com! (It is a great website that we frequent on a daily basis.) Yep, the first thing he thought to do when seeing The Cleavage Caddy was that he could send it to Geekologie and get a shout out. I have to say, what they said about Justin was pretty funny.
